  12.          PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
  13.  
  14.               THE ZIP TERMINUS(c) is a SHELL utility for PKZIP V1.1x
  15.          and it's associated files. THE ZIP TERMINUS(c) features easy
  16.          flat archive menu driven compression and extraction routines.
  17.          It's ideal for the everyday user who is interested in 'getting
  18.          the job done' and who does not require an overwhelming amount
  19.          bells, whistles and power options. However, TERMINUS does
  20.          accept custom parameters and allows for user tailoring of most
  21.          operations. Hands-free toggled virus detection is provided for
  22.          both compress and extraction operations. McAfee's VIRUSCAN
  23.          program is called up to scan all files extracted and those files
  24.          which have been tagged for compression. TERMINUS uses an easy
  25.          system of flexible defaults which are auto-configured when
  26.          the program is first run to help speed up program installation.
  27.          A path pick list is used to store frequently selected paths and
  28.          provide the user with quick selection of source and target
  29.          directories.

  31.               ZIP TERMINUS was designed to run from a hard disk but will
  32.          work satisfactorily if installed on a high capacity floppy. It
  33.          caters to the low-end of the video standard spectrum  by
  34.          offering compatibility with IBM MDA monochrome, IBM CGA Color
  35.          and those systems that utilize the IBM CGA standard but employ
  36.          a money saving green, amber or white monochrome display device.
  37.          TERMINUS may be worked from the keyboard or by a Microsoft
  38.          compatibile mouse.

  40.               This program does not attempt to incorporate every possible
  41.          archive option offered by PKZIP. Instead, it offers a modest selection
  42.          of menu powered options that can be used with ease in today's computer
  43.          and telecommunication environments which demand user competence in
  44.          the areas of file compression, extraction and computer virus infection
  45.          prevention.

  47.               This version of The ZIP TERMINUS features FULL submenu SUPPORT
  48.          for McAfee Associates' virus detector program SCAN.EXE . Virus scans
  49.          of entire subdirectories and/or logical drives are now provided for
  50.          user convenience.

  77.          The ZIP TERMINUS(c) is a SHELL and needs the following programs
  78.          for FULL access to ALL functions:

  81.                           PKZIP(tm) v1.1X  by PKWARE, INC.
  82.                VIRUSCAN(tm) 6.3vXX or higher by McAfee Associates

  84.          Make sure you have the following files from each(* see below *) of the
  85.          above in the same subdirectory for hard disk installation or on the
  86.          same (* see note *) floppy for quick start and access to ALL TERMINUS
  87.          functions.

  89.               PKZIP(tm) files needed are  : PKZIP.EXE; PKUNZIP.EXE;
  90.                                             ZIP2EXE.EXE; PKZIPFIX.EXE

  104.         Please delete earlier version ZIP TERMINUS files before installing
  105.          version 5.5A .  Make sure you delete ZTEC.CFG an ZTEC.PCK too!
  106.          Follow the directions on page #4 of ZTEC.DOC to install your new
  107.          version of THE ZIP TERMINUS(c).

  111.             **  FLOPPY START:
  112.  
  113.             Start THE ZIP TERMINUS by typing each line followed by <ENTER>:

  120.             ** HARD DISK START:
  121.  
  122.             Assuming you have placed the required files on DRIVE #C in a
  123.             subdirectory named terminus you may start TERMINUS by typing
  124.             each line followed by <ENTER>
  125.

  128.                                   cd\terminus
  129.                                   ZTEC55A.EXE
  130.  
  131.             Change the line C: to D: or whatever the drive letter designation
  132.             you installed TERMINUS on. Change the line cd\terminus to
  133.             cd\whatever where 'whatever' is the subdirectory you placed the
  134.             TERMINUS programs.
  135.  
  136.          ** NOTE #1:
  137.  
  138.          Floppy installation in a system without a hard drive or if you boot
  139.          off a floppy from drive #A(start your system by placing your DOS
  140.          system disk in drive #A) requires that you MUST place COMMAND.COM
  141.          on the TERMINUS disk and that this disk must be placed in the BOOT
  142.          drive. Systems with 720K, 1.4MEG, or 1.2MEG BOOT drives will be able
  143.          to place all of the above files on one disk. Systems with 360K BOOT
  144.          drives and no hard drive will not be able to run THE ZIP TERMINUS
  145.          satisfactorily and without sacrifice of certain options.

  149.               Please take the time to read the INSTALLATION procedures found
  150.          in ZTEC.DOC . The TERMINUS is error trapped for MISSING program
  151.          files(ZIP2EXE.EXE, SCAN.EXE, etc.) and will refuse to perform functions
  152.          associated with the required files if they don't exist in the DEFAULT
  153.          specified subdirectories. REMEMBER: TERMINUS is not a stand alone
  154.          utility, it is a SHELL for PKZIP and VIRUSCAN.

  156.               The first time you run ZTEC55A.EXE make sure you go no further
  157.          than the MAIN MENU before you press F5 and make the needed additions
  158.          or corrections to the DEFAULT TABLE.

  161.               IF you have IBM CGA C80 mode compatibility(you can run programs
  162.          which require color 80 column text IBM CGA mode) but utilize a money
  163.          saving green, amber, white etc. monochrome display, start TERMINUS
  164.          like this:

  166.                        A> ZTEC55A.EXE cga255  (press return)
  167.  
  168.          Use lower case letters for cga255. This will eliminate window
  169.          background colors and adjust certain other textcolors so you may be
  170.          able to SEE all menu selects, prompts, etc. The mouse will still
  171.          function if you have one. NOTE: TRUE IBM MDA monochrome display
  172.          cards are auto-detected and there is no need for the extra parameter
  173.          when starting TERMINUS.

  176.               Version 5.5A has TWO HELP keys, F10 which is displayed
  177.          in the lower function menu bar and F1. Each key produces the same
  178.          result.

  182.          RECENT PROGRAM CHANGES:
  183.  
  184.          v5.2   1. Version 5.2A incorporated user selected DOS BATCH file
  185.                    runs from the main menu. Location of batch file was limited
  186.                    to the TERMINUS directory and/or disk.

  188.          v5.4   1. Batch file location limitation was removed allowing users
  189.                    to launch from ANY directory and/or logical drive.
  190.  
  191.          v5.5   1. ZIP comment implementation was made an option within each
  192.                    submenu. Dedicated submenu for comment facility was removed
  193.                    to make room for further virus scanning options.
  194.  
  195.                 2. Full powered submenu support for McAfee's VIRUSCAN was
  196.                    added. Submenu provides virus scans of entire directory
  197.                    and/or logical drive. User may enter parameter options
  198.                    for SCAN in the default table.

  200.                 3. Online installation was improved.

  202.                 4. Separate subdirectory locations for TERMINUS, PKZIP and
  203.                    VIRUSCAN were added to the default table.
  204.  
  205.                 5. Pathfinder capacity was increased to 400 entries. A user
  206.                    manual entry was added for paths/dirs not on the list.

  208.                 6. Update/Upgrade policy has been liberalized.

  210.                 7. Configuration and default table additions, corrections and
  211.                    modifications added to help insure quick installation,etc.
